What is Ticket to Work?

Ticket to Work is an innovative program from the Social Security Administration that:

Ticket to Work is free and voluntary and will offer SSA beneficiaries with disabilities a greater choice in obtaining the services they need to help them go to work.

What is a Ticket?

Eligible Nebraskans with disabilities began receiving a Ticket from the Social Security Administration in 2003. Consumers may use their Ticket to buy rehabilitation, training and other employment services, or conduct a job search using any Ticket to Work employment facilitator of their choice.

Is participation required? No. Participation in the Ticket to Work program is strictly voluntary and not required to receive assistance.

How Does the Ticket Work?

You should take your Ticket to an employment network. An employment network is a private organization or public agency, including Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation, which has agreed to work with Social Security to provide services under the Ticket to Work program.

For information about employment networks that serve the area where you live, you may contact Maximus, the Operations Support Manager, at 1-866-968-7842 or 1-866-833-2967 (TTY).

You may also find this information on the internet at www.socialsecurity.gov/work.

How to Use the Nebraska Ticket to Work Website

The Nebraska Ticket to Work website is designed to serve as a resource for people with disabilities who wish to explore employment opportunities, for employers who want to find dedicated, talented workers and for the systems professionals who serve both groups.

The website includes information on Medicaid Insurance for Workers with Disabilities (MIWD) and Personal Assistance Services (PAS). These services are available to people with disabilities even if they choose not to participate in the Ticket to Work program.

Information about the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (MIG), a funding source to improve employment outcomes for people with disabilities, is also available on the website.

Consumers can also use the Nebraska Ticket to Work website to explore other online resources, read about Ticket to Work activities in the news and consumer and employer success stories, and share experiences with other people with disabilities who are exploring employment opportunities through the Nebraska Ticket to Work Discussion Group.
