Entering the workforce is often difficult, but finding employment is a challenge that you can meet with the right tools and assistance. There are resources available to help you reach your goal of employment. When you are exploring job and employment options, you may choose to do it on your own or you can get help from a professional. This website will give you some resources to help you achieve your employment goals.

If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), the Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency program is all about you. It's all about your employment goals, holding your own job, and enjoying the benefits and empowerment of employment.

You're a "Ticket-User" if you use your privileges under the Ticket to Work Program to explore employment.

Working with a Professional

If you prefer to seek out a vocational rehabilitation counselor, employment service provider, or an employment network, these professionals may offer the following services:

  • Suggest and administer assessment tools to help identify your likes, dislikes and preferences.
  • Assist with your person-centered planning process.
  • Determine your need for further education and training.
  • Make referrals to education and training programs and help you access funding to pay for these services.
  • Assist you with a range of career exploration opportunities including informational interviews and job shadowing opportunities.

Disability Law Lowdown: Ticket to Work

You Must Stay On Track and On Time

If you participate in the Ticket program, you must make “timely progress” towards reaching your employment goals—that is, you must follow your work plan and meet deadlines specified by the program. As long as you follow your work plan, you will not be subject to a medical "Continuing Disability Reviews (CDRs) by Social Security. The New Ticket to Work regulations changed the requirements for timely progress in 2008. If you were using your Ticket prior to July 21, 2008, contact Maximus at 1-866-968-7842 (TDD: 1-866-833-296) for information on the requirements that apply to you.

Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation 

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR or Voc Rehab) works with people with all types of physical, mental or emotional disabilities who are willing and able to work. Federal Schedule A Hiring Authority

Schedule A offers federal jobs—both entry-level and career-level—in a non-competitive process that favors SSA disability beneficiaries. The Obama administration has a goal of hiring 100,000 people through Schedule A in five years. Some federal agencies are still gearing up to meet this mandate.
