It Just Makes Sense

The Nebraska Ticket to Work Program Streamlines Employer Access to Motivated, Dependable Workers.
In the past, some Nebraska employers may have chosen not to hire a job candidate with disabilities due to concerns over insurance, complicated government programs, or perceived legal ramifications. The new Ticket to Work Program addresses these issues and clears the way for hiring the reliable, capable people your company needs today and will need in the future.

There is No Substitute for Experienced Employees.
A recent survey of Nebraskans with disabilities showed more than half of the respondents were gainfully employed when they became disabled. Their work experience is almost equally divided among technical, sales, administrative, machinist, fabrication, general labor, managerial, and professional specialty occupations.

This is clearly a diverse workforce with both skill and experience, a labor pool that can prove indispensable in meeting the nation's projected 10-million-worker shortage by the year 2010.

About the Ticket to Work Program.
As part of the federal Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act, the program's goal is to help SSI/SSDI recipients obtain meaningful, long-term employment by addressing financial barriers to healthcare, and providing greater opportunities to work. To that end, Ticket to Work legislation allows people with disabilities to retain Medicaid benefits while being employed. Over time employees assume the responsibility for supplemental insurance as their ability to pay increases.

It's About Ability, Not Disability.
Perhaps for the first time, employers are now able to focus on a job candidate's abilities rather than their disabilities. This, of course, is in everyone's best interest. That's why national companies such as Aetna®, Sprint®, American Express®, Xerox®, Compaq Computer, DaimlerChrysler, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and many Nebraska-based businesses, such as info-USA and Am-Con support the program. Every day, many executives see dedicated, talented employees with disabilities make significant contributions to their businesses, proving that hiring people with disabilities isn't just a good thing to do. It's a good business decision.
